My Philosophy: Beyond the Postcard

Most people visit India to see the Taj Mahal or the beaches of Goa. While those are beautiful, Chris believes that India’s true magic lies in the “in-between” moments.

His journey started with a one-way ticket to Delhi and a backpack. Since then, he has spent more than 2,000 days on the road, living in remote villages in Himachal Pradesh, exploring the salt marshes of Kutch, and learning traditional cooking from families in Tamil Nadu.

Chris’s Areas of Expertise:

  • Off-Beat Itineraries: Finding destinations that haven’t been “spoiled” by over-tourism.

  • Cultural Etiquette: Helping foreign and local tourists navigate India’s complex traditions with respect.

  • Budget Optimization: Proving that you can experience the beauty of India without spending a fortune.

  • Slow Travel Logistics: Expert knowledge of Indian Railways, local buses, and long-term homestay rentals.

Why You Can Trust Chris’s Guides

In an era of generic travel blogs, Chris brings Human Experience back to the forefront. He doesn’t just write about places; he breathes them.

  1. Tested Itineraries: Every route shared on https://theroamingguide.com/ has been personally walked by Chris. If he says a trek is “moderate,” it’s because he felt the climb himself.

  2. No-Nonsense Reviews: Chris does not accept “free stays” in exchange for fake positive reviews. If a hotel is dirty or a tour is a scam, he tells you the truth.

  3. Updated for 2026: He keeps track of the latest digital permit systems, 5G connectivity zones in the mountains, and new highway routes to save you time.

“India is not a country you see; it is a country you feel. My goal is to make sure you feel the right things—the warmth of a chai cup, the peace of a mountain morning, and the joy of a local festival.” — Chris

Chris’s Mission for 2026

Chris is currently focused on building the most comprehensive database for “Sustainable Indian Travel.” He is working with local communities to promote eco-tourism and help travelers reduce their carbon footprint while exploring the Himalayas and the Western Ghats.

When he isn’t writing for The Roaming Guide, you can find Chris at a local railway station, camera in hand, waiting for the next train to a town he hasn’t heard of yet.
